Pack Your Tools and Hardware for Moving!

If you are getting ready for a move, you are going to have to pack your tools and hardware. Unlike other household items, packing away tools requires a level of caution and care. After all, if these items are not secured properly, they can be unsafe to handle or damage other items. Many tools come in kits and containers, making it easier to close up and neatly pack. However there are other considerations and items you might not readily consider. Here are some packing tips to make sure your tools and hardware transports safely and undamaged!

Power Tools

While many power tools have made the change over to chargeable batteries,  some power tools still rely on oil and gas. This especially goes for tools such as lawn mowers and powerful leaf blowers. If you are moving this type of power tool, it is important to drain oil and gas from the tool. Power tools with cases should be safely placed inside after drained and cleaned. Any power tool attachments need to be removed and placed securely in a box. It is a good idea to keep all of these attachments together to prevent items being lost.

Garden Tools

When it comes to gardening tools, there is a wide variety of tools that need to packed in different ways. First of all, you should make sure all of your garden tools are clean. For long handled gardening tools (rake, shovel, etc), you should gather them together and secure them in a bundle. For handle-held tools, you should pack and cushion in a box for moving. Of course labeling properly will save you a lot of time!

While there are plenty of tools and hardware to move in your garage, many of your tools located in a number of places like your basement, utility room, sheds and even junk drawers. You may find that packing for your move may be the best time to organize your tools. Make sure they are packed and labeled to go to the right spot when unpacking at your new location.

For any loose tools with sharp edges, you need to cover them tightly to prevent blade from damaging items and hurting people. Use towels and other materials to wrap around the blade before securing it with tape. If you have hand tools, you should seal or lock them inside their box and although damage may not be a concern, make sure they are tightly packed. The box may be heavy and you do not the contents shifting during transport!
